Please Note: The Screening Kit components are Microsft Word documents. The poster and flyer are .pdf files.

1. Sign-In Sheets
When people arrive at your screening, ask them to sign in. Also, mention at your screening discussion that signing the sheet is a good way to take action and get involved in gun violence prevention or suicide prevention work. You may want to use this contact information for your local organizing and also, please mail copies of the sign-in sheet to: There Ought to be A Law, 1355 Royalsborough Rd., Durham, ME 04222 and if you’re in New England, please send a copy to New England Coalition to Prevent Gun Violence, P.O. Box 221, Westbrook, ME 04098.

2. Action Items
After viewing and discussing the film, many people will want to find out how they can become actively involved and will want to know how they can help. By passing out this information, you’ll provide the initial steps in taking action. Perhaps there are additional items to add to the list from your local area that you can brainstorm after the screening.

3. Posters
To use to announce your screening. You can download these from our website, or contact us at info@thereought2bealaw.com about purchase information. You can customize your poster or use stickers to add the place, date and time of your screening to the poster. The posters are also useful to put up at the screening to point the way to the location, or to give the screening area a sense of purpose.

4. Press Release Template
This can be customized for your local screening. By sending a press release to local newspapers, radio or TV outlets, you’ll generate buzz for the film and draw people to the screening. Often there is a community calendar on local press, community television or radio outlets that will be happy to include your event.

5. Flyer Template - Front / Back
In the weeks leading up to your screening, you’ll want to have something to leave with people who you tell about the screening. You can use these as invitations, post them on bulletin boards or mail them to your potential audience.

6. Discussion Guide
Here are ideas to make your post-screening discussion a more informative and productive event. The film is designed to ask more questions than it answers, so it’s fulfilling for the audience to be able to pursue the lines of thinking opened by the film. In conjunction with this guide, having an action plan (see above) will make your screening a more complete event.

7. How to Make a Local Fact Sheet
THERE OUGHT TO BE A LAW is one woman’s story in one state. Gun laws are complex and vary from state-to-state and can change from year-to-year. Here’s how to find the information you’ll need for your discussion so the discussion doesn’t get bogged down without the facts.
